About Me

My name is Chris Tauer.

I am an analytical thinker with a technical background and a strong belief that empathy is key for creating the best user experiences.

I love the challenge of solving design related problems while providing the best user experience possible.

Designer at Heart

I have alway had an appreciation for great design whether in architecture,  industrial design,  or the web.

Combining this appreciation with a strong compulsion to improve the world around me,  I have found that I could forge a career as a designer.

I have experience in many of the latest tools of the trade,  but I find myself agnostic to any one tool.  Bringing good design principles to the work is what's important to me,  not the latest trend.

My Work

My work experience ranges from more technical development work to pure graphic design.

Working as a UX designer,  my focus has been on the end user and making their experience as intuitive,  fluid and natural as possible.  Information architecture is second nature to me.

The Showcase

The work I am showcasing here spans most of my design related career.  You will see older print work right along with experimental immersive sites I developed in Flash.

On this site you will find some of the things I have made or been involved in making (or improving) over the years.  I hope you like them.

Thomson Reuters

While at Thomson Reuters I have had the privilege to work in both the Tax & Accounting and the Legal divisions.   Working on state of the art software across industries has provided interesting challenges and opportunities to solve complex design problems.   During this time, I spearheaded the UX for a few different products.

Highlighted here,  is a legal solution that illustrates the type of design challenges that I helped solve while at Thomson Reuters.

ADT

Working for the Customer Care Group at ADT as a Sr. UX Designer,  I touched on both customer facing as well as internal products.

I worked closely with Product Owners,  BAs,  Development,  as well as QA to make certain the final products met our rigorous standards for providing a great user experience for our customers.

With offices next to one of ADT's largest call centers much of my work centered around research and testing leveraging my access to the ADT support agents.

AT&T

Working as a contractor at AT&T provided me with the opportunity to work on a variety of their digital properties.

Beginning my work on the Sustainment "Pod",  I touched on a wide variety of rapid deployment projects spanning all areas of AT&T's online presence.  Later,  I was assigned to the Billing Pod and worked on all things billing related.

Project work usually spanned both desktop and mobile experience in equal measure.

Tyler Technologies

At Tyler Technologies I found myself working as the lead UX designer on a new jury management product.

This project entailed the creation of a completely new desktop software and involved a ground up approach to the design.

My role encompassed all facets of UX from contextual interviews,  requirements gathering,  iterative prototyping,  usability testing,  and even multiple high fidelity compositions to help envision the possible directions for UI styling.

While working as a Multi-Media Designer at the American Heart Association I was also tasked with making promotional material to bring awareness to the educational courses developed for the Heart University.
